And just for the record, turns out you were right & I was wrong.

Roberts sides w/Obama argument that this equates to a tax, which is authorized by Congress to levy...5-4 decision.

Just remember: This was a Republican idea originally, in the 1990's. Now, tools like McConnell and the rest of the hard right wing nut contingent say it's a "terrible law that must be repealed."

Amazing rabbit hole stuff from these hypocritical idiots.

Not surprised at 5-4, but definitely surprised that the individual mandate was upheld. I read through the opinion summary and it seemed to hinge on the provision that even if you refuse to get insurance you can only be fined and not jailed - therefore it fell more in line with a tax than mandated commerce (which was the crux of the argument made by the States that sued).

When you step back and observe that this was the same court that said States weren't allowed to uphold Federal law, or in the absence of Federal law, enact their own (recent Immigration ruling in AZ) and also ruled with Citizens United that corporations were "people" and afforded 1st Amendment protections (read as "Allowed to make nearly unlimited contributions to political figures in exchange for favorable legislation) can you come to any other conclusion that this country is headed for some interesting times?

Now for that dollar meltdown.....because nobody wants to talk about the real 800 pound gorilla in the room.....

Roberts as the swing vote is the most curious here...however, he gave hint of this when on Monday he sided with the federal Govt. on most provisions in the AZ Immigration ruling...he seems to be upholding federal authority in a number of instances & at least shows he is less obviously partisan than Scalia and the practically brain-dead Thomas.

Still, Citizens United was brought to us almost entirely by Roberts, who went out of his way to bring it up at all.

I was kind of surprised at how quickly they dismissed the arguments against the mandate as an issue of unconstitutional application of the commerce clause (as originally argued by Congress) and opined/ruled that it was indeed a tax (originally touted by Congress as most definitely NOT being a tax). November backdraft anyone? Did Roberts just secretly engineer the cleansing of the White House, Senate and House of Representatives? Oh, the conspiracy theories abound......... Might be a pretty safe haven.

I'm long Icelandic krona myself. Any country where the people, when given a choice between severe austerity measures to pay off government incurred debt and taking positve action, decide to rise up, throw out the Prime Minister, replace Parliament and rewrite their Consitution that in essence gave the Eurozone a hearty "Heigh-ho, go fuck yourselves and your debt based monetary system" has got to be a good place.

I just wish KFC chicken wasn't $8.00 piece.....but maybe things have changed since '84?

All I know about Iceland is the airport and that every woman looks like Bjork.

How do you find your way out of the forest if you get lost in Iceland?

Stand up. (told to me by a gal from Rejkavijk (sp?)

Every woman I saw was blonde, blue-eyed and gorgeous. There must be a law in Iceland that requires ugly babies to be drowned or thrown into volcanoes.

Which airport? The international airport, the NATO airport or the taxi crossing? Wait - one and the same. Our taxi had to stop for a C-141 STARLIFTER and four F-15 EAGLES.

Forests????? I don't remember anything taller than bush three feet high near a geothermal spring....and that was on a 6 foot 3 inch Icelandic woman.........I digress, I had to go there.....craven has been rubbing off on me lately.
